Pioneering

Happy Pioneer Day! (celebrated early) It was so nice to have Andrew to ourselves all day long!

The morning started with a ward breakfast and Pioneer Day activity. Andrew rocked the stick pull. Andrew & Sam joined the 3-legged race at the last minute. The tie kept falling off Sam's little leg.
The main event (with the possible exception of my pina colada cupcakes--thanks for the recipe Mom A) was Andrew & I winning the 3-legged race. That's right. Seven months prego and all.

On the way home we decided to go to Nauvoo. The youth from our old MO ward were there for a temple trip, and we hadn't been to the pageant this year. So we packed up snacks and drove over the Mississippi.

One of the bagpipers (technically the drummer), saw Sam eying the drum and let him go at it. I think it made Sam's day. And the drummer remembered Sam enough to wave and smile everytime we saw him.

We took full advantage of the pre-show fair. Sam & Andrew helped in the tug-o-war, used stilts, cut logs, raced handcarts. Sam particularly enjoyed the sack race and joining the parade behind the bagpipers.

I love the spirit of Nauvoo, especially with the pageant. No matter how long and hot the day is, I always leave feeling energized and at peace.

Sam always likes to touch the temple when we go.

That sounds like so much fun--what do you say, should we get serious about planning to meet up at Hill Cumorah next summer??

so fun! i miss nauvoo (now that it's so far away) i can't believe we didn't take advantage of it more!

i love that last photo with the sun rays - totally cool!

just so you know 2 months still isn't long enough for bel to stop asking if/when we are going to play at sam's house. the other day she asked to go and i told her his house was really far away - she said, "that's okay - we can drive"
